India, Sept. 12 -- India will tighten its consumer protections for online shoppers starting January 1, 2027. Under the new guidelines, e-commerce firms are required to offer better transparency regarding prices, products, payment, as well as limiting their ability to engage in deceptive sales tactics, undisclosed fees and abuse of customer information.

It is expected that the new provisions will help many millions of Indians who purchase clothes, phones, electronics and home items via the Internet understand the real costs and conditions associated with purchases. Moreover, the new regulations will also enhance the functioning of online websites when it comes to sponsored search results and website design manipulation.
