India, Aug. 30 -- Nepal has decided to preserve DNA samples and other identification evidence from unidentified and unclaimed bodies recovered following devastating flash floods before burying the remains. Prime Minister Balendra Shah said the measure will allow authorities to identify bodies at a later stage if relatives provide matching DNA samples. The decision comes as the large number of recovered remains has put pressure on hospitals and temporary facilities.

675 Bodies Recovered So Far

According to Shah, at least 675 bodies have been recovered from Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot, Chitwan, Tanahun, Gorkha, Nawalparasi East and Nawalparasi West. Chitwan has reported the highest number, with 233 bodies recovered. The government will take ...
