India, Aug. 23 -- Nancy Kassebaum Baker, a political trailblazer and daughter of a Kansas governor who shattered historical barriers by becoming the first woman elected to the US Senate without following a spouse into office, has died at the age of 94. Her passing on Friday of natural causes was confirmed by her son, Bill Kassebaum, who reflected on her profound connection to her home state throughout her long career in public office.
