The extreme weather comes just 10 days before the city is scheduled to co-host the 2026 Asian Games. Nagoya Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa confirmed that despite the severe disruption, the competition venues are stable, early-arriving athletes are safe, and the multi-sport event will proceed as planned starting September 19. The total rainfall reached 219.5 mm in a single day, with an all-time record of 104.5 mm dumping in just one hour-marking the heaviest hourly downpour the city has recorded since tracking began in 1890.
