India, Sept. 24 -- Veteran actor Mushtaq Khan, who became a familiar face in Hindi cinema through supporting and comic roles, has died at the age of 56. Khan passed away on Thursday evening, September 24, after being admitted to a Mumbai hospital.

His business partner Shivam confirmed his death to Hindustan Times and said the actor had been battling cancer.

Khan worked in Hindi cinema for more than three decades and appeared alongside several leading stars. While he played a wide range of supporting characters, comedy remained one of the strongest parts of his screen presence. From Aashiqui and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke to Hera Pheri, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Welcome and Stree 2, his filmography covered several generations of Bollywood.
