India, July 23 -- Mumbai and several parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) remain under heavy rain alerts on July 23, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting more intense showers across the region. While schools and colleges in Mumbai will remain open, authorities have not announced any city-wide holiday and said educational institutions will continue to function unless weather conditions worsen significantly.

However, the Palghar district administration has declared a holiday for all schools, colleges, anganwadis and other educational institutions after the IMD issued a Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.
