India, June 24 -- Mumbai woke up to heavy rain on Wednesday as the southwest monsoon became stronger across the city, just a day after officially arriving in Maharashtra's capital. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and nearby Palghar, warning of very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds, whereas Thane district is under an orange alert. Several parts of Mumbai have already seen waterlogging due to heavy overnight rainfall.
