Mike Lindell Withholds $825,000 Recount Payment, Sues Minnesota Over Primary Process
India, Aug. 26 -- Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Lindell has withheld a required $825,000 payment for a recount of Minnesota's Republican primary and filed suit against state election officials, after missing Monday's midnight deadline to formally request a review of a race he lost by roughly 45,000 votes.
The MyPillow founder, who finished second to Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth in the 11 August primary, had said last week he would personally cover the cost of a full hand recount and audit. Instead, Lindell's campaign said the funds were "primed and ready to cover the costs" but would not be handed over because of a dispute over how the recount would be scoped.
