India, Aug. 5 -- Michigan voters delivered one of the biggest surprises of the 2026 primary season by handing progressive candidate William Lawrence a decisive victory in the Democratic primary for the state's 7th Congressional District. The Sunrise Movement co-founder defeated two better-known rivals to secure the nomination in one of the nation's most competitive House seats.

Lawrence will now challenge incumbent Republican Rep. Tom Barrett in November, where the outcome could play a crucial role in determining control of the U.S. House of Representatives.
