India, Oct. 25 -- United States national Matthew VanDyke had planned to remain in India until his next court hearing, partly in the hope of recovering his seized belongings, including his mobile phone and other electronic devices. However, after the court fixed the next hearing for 24 February 2027, he left India on Saturday morning and is expected to return for the proceedings, sources aware of the matter said.

After he, along with six Ukrainians, was arrested in March in Kolkata under the allegation of providing arms training to groups in Myanmar, his detention had become an issue of contention between New Delhi and Washington and had led to heightened activities by US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor.
