India, Sept. 15 -- Two recent university graduates and long-time friends lost their lives early Sunday when a southbound Number 4 subway train struck them as they sat on the roadbed inside Manhattan's Spring Street station, according to the New York Police Department.

The victims, identified as 24-year-olds Malaika Chitre of South Brunswick, New Jersey, and Navam Kaul of Sayreville, New Jersey, both graduated from Rutgers University in 2024 and were remembered by family acquaintances as high-achieving individuals who had recently embarked on promising professional careers.
