India, Sept. 25 -- The political contest in Tamil Nadu's Madurantakam (SC) Assembly constituency is taking shape ahead of the October 6, 2026, by-election, with the seat drawing attention after its former AIADMK legislator moved to the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The Election Commission has fixed October 9 for counting, while major parties have started announcing their candidates for the reserved constituency.

The by-election became necessary after K. Maragatham Kumaravel resigned as an AIADMK MLA and later joined TVK. TVK has now nominated Kumaravel to contest the seat again, while the DMK has selected former MLA and party legal-wing leader I. Paranthamen.
