India, Sept. 27 -- Tension prevailed at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab's Phagwara after a social media message alleging that an outsider had raped a female student circulated widely online. The protests began at around 2 am on Saturday, with a large number of students gathering on the university campus. During the unrest, parts of the campus and the university gate were allegedly damaged.

A vehicle was also reportedly set on fire, while students later moved onto the roads and blocked traffic.
