India, Aug. 25 -- Veteran filmmaker Kuku Kohli, best known for directing Phool Aur Kaante and launching Ajay Devgn into Hindi cinema, has died at the age of 77. Kohli, whose real name was Avtar Kohli, passed away at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai.

His death was confirmed by filmmaker-producer Ashoke Pandit, who said Kohli suffered a massive heart attack. According to Pandit, Kohli had no known illness and was "hale and hearty" before his sudden death.
