India, Sept. 28 -- South Korea's benchmark KOSPI index opened lower on Monday, September 28, after four consecutive sessions of gains before the Chuseok holiday. The index opened at 7,057.86, down 23.06 points, or 0.33%, from its previous close of 7,080.92.

The KOSPI extended its decline in early trading and fell below the 7,050 level, touching a low of 7,035.03 before recovering slightly. By 9:15 a.m. local time, the index was at 7,040.76, down 0.47%.

Foreign investors and institutions were net sellers during the early session, while individual investors emerged as net buyers. The KOSPI's decline comes after the benchmark had regained the psychologically important 7,000 mark during its previous four-session winning run.
