India, June 23 -- A major tragedy was narrowly averted in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district on 23 June, after a Bailey bridge collapsed while a truck was crossing it, sending the vehicle plunging into the Sutlej River. The incident took place near Urni Dhank in the Tapri area along National Highway-5, a crucial route connecting several parts of the tribal district. According to reports, the bridge suddenly gave way under the moving dumper truck, causing it to crash into the river below. Following the incident, senior district authorities arrived at the spot to check the level of damage caused and carry out the rescue work.
