India, April 21 -- A massive explosion at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Kerala's Thrissur district has killed at least 8 people and injured several others, triggering panic across the region. The blast took place at a facility near Mundathikode that was preparing fireworks for the upcoming Thrissur Pooram festival.
The impact was so powerful that residents reported hearing it several kilometres away, with many initially mistaking it for an earthquake. Thick smoke, scattered explosives and secondary blasts made rescue operations extremely challenging. Emergency teams continue to search the site as authorities assess the full scale of damage.
