India, Sept. 5 -- A chunk of ceiling collapsed inside the Grand Foyer of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington on Thursday evening, following two days of torrential rain, prompting officials to close the space while they assess the damage.

The Kennedy Center said the debris fell from a high section of the Grand Foyer's ceiling at around 5pm, scattering across the carpet below. No injuries were reported, and the venue said the Grand Foyer would remain closed through the weekend while the rest of the building continued to operate normally.
