India, Sept. 12 -- Jeremy Thomas, the Oscar-winning independent film producer whose career stretched across more than five decades, has died at the age of 77. Thomas passed away peacefully at his country home in Oxfordshire on Friday, September 11, surrounded by his family and loved ones, according to a statement from his team, Variety reported.

For more than 50 years, Thomas was the kind of producer who backed filmmakers and projects that did not always fit the conventional mould. Through his production companies and long list of collaborations, he helped bring more than 80 films to audiences around the world.
