India, Sept. 1 -- Janmashtami 2026 will be celebrated on Friday, September 4, with devotees observing fasts, performing prayers and celebrating Lord Krishna's birth around midnight. The festival also features special food offerings, with Chappan Bhog, or 56 Bhog, being one of the most prominent traditions associated with Krishna worship.

The 56 Bhog includes a wide variety of sweets, dairy preparations, fruits, savoury foods, dry fruits and other traditional offerings. While the exact list can differ across regions, temples and families, the central idea remains the offering of 56 different preparations to Lord Krishna as an expression of devotion and gratitude.
