India, July 24 -- Thalapathy Vijay's much-awaited film Jana Nayagan finally arrived in theatres on Friday after weeks of uncertainty over its censor certificate. The political action drama opened to a strong Rs 41 crore net at the Indian box office, backed by massive fan anticipation and a wide release across the country.

While the opening places the film among the biggest Tamil launches of the year, it fell short of surpassing the Day 1 collections of Vijay's previous releases, Beast and GOAT. The film also missed out on joining the list of Tamil films that have crossed the Rs 50 crore mark on their opening day.
