India, Aug. 11 -- Jackie, the celebrated bald eagle whose life was chronicled by millions through a livestream trained on her nest above Big Bear Lake, has died at the age of 14, according to the Ojai Raptor Center, which had been treating her for a serious illness.

The centre said in a statement shared on social media on the afternoon of Monday, August 10, that Jackie died "in the early hours of this morning" following an extended period of intensive care. Her death brings to a close nearly a decade in which she became one of California's most recognisable wildlife figures, watched over by a devoted global audience through cameras operated by the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley.
