India, Aug. 1 -- The July 31 deadline for filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) for most salaried taxpayers has officially ended without any extension from the government. While crores of taxpayers completed their filings before the due date, many missed the deadline because of technical issues, missing documents or other personal reasons. Missing the original due date does not mean taxpayers lose the opportunity to file their return. They can still submit a belated return, but they may have to pay a late filing fee, interest on unpaid taxes and could lose certain tax benefits.
