India, May 27 -- Tensions in the Middle East reached a perilous new peak as Israeli airstrikes targeted areas directly adjacent to Lebanon's largest water reservoir, the Qaraoun Dam.

The strikes, which Lebanese officials described as the first of their kind since the current conflict erupted in March, have sparked urgent warnings from environmental and government authorities regarding the potential for an ecological and humanitarian catastrophe should the facility's infrastructure be compromised.
