India, July 22 -- The Italian football federation appears hopeful about appointing Pep Guardiola as the national team's head coach. The veteran tactician, who recently left Manchester City after a glorious spell, has reportedly started discussing the role with the Italian hierarchy. Federation President Giovanni Malago recently confirmed that they were negotiating a deal with Guardiola, who would also be interested in taking up his first national team job. Also, New FIGC technical director Paolo Maldini and his adviser Leonardo visited Barcelona to meet the Spanish manager.
