India, Aug. 21 -- The Indian women's hockey team suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Netherlands in their second-round Women's Hockey World Cup 2026 encounter, as the Dutch side once again demonstrated their superiority on the international stage. Yibbi Jansen opened the scoring from a penalty corner in the first quarter before Frederique Matla doubled the advantage after the interval.

India defended resolutely for long periods but struggled to create enough attacking opportunities. Goalkeeper Savita produced several important saves late in the contest, although the Netherlands ultimately secured all three points.
