India, Aug. 2 -- Landmark vaccine approval offers new protection against dengue amid rising seasonal outbreaks nationwide.

In a landmark development for India's public health system, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has granted marketing authorisation to Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda's dengue vaccine, Qdenga (TAK003), making it the country's first approved vaccine against dengue. Cleared for individuals aged 4 to 60 years, the vaccine is expected to significantly strengthen India's efforts to reduce dengue-related illness, hospitalisations and deaths, especially as outbreaks continue to intensify during the monsoon season.
