India, April 26 -- India's heatwave intensified on Sunday, with Akola in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region recording the country's highest maximum temperature of 46.9degC. The India Meteorological Department warned that scorching conditions will continue over parts of Northwest and Central India for the next three days.
Vidarbha bore the brunt of the heat, with heatwave conditions reported at a few places across the region. Isolated pockets of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh also recorded heatwave conditions on the day.
