India, June 5 -- Red-ball cricket is back in the sub-continent with a new-look Indian team preparing to face a resilient Afghanistan side in a historic one-off Test match.The much-awaited clash is slated to kick off on June 6, 2026, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. Mullanpur will achieve the monumental milestone of becoming India's 31st official Test venue.

The fixture will be the beginning of a new chapter for India with head coach Gautam Gambhir and young star Shubman Gill taking over as captain with senior players rested. Meanwhile, Hashmatullah Shahidi will be leading a gritty Afghan squad which is still hungry to prove its mettle in the ultimate format of cricket.
