India, Sept. 30 -- Virat Kohli has moved up to second place in the latest ICC men's ODI batting rankings after his outstanding century against West Indies, putting him within touching distance of India captain Shubman Gill at the top.

Kohli now has 796 rating points, just 20 behind Gill's 816. The former India captain's rise follows his unbeaten 139 against West Indies in the opening ODI of the ongoing series. The knock, which came off 88 deliveries, included nine sixes and helped India secure a comfortable eight-wicket victory.

Gill also strengthened his position at the summit after scoring a century in the same match. New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell occupies third place with 794 points, while Rohit Sharma remains fourth on 719.
