Despite an impressive pre-season, Michael Carrick's side succumbed to a humiliating defeat to Hull City AFC, who were promoted to the English top tier last season from the EFL Championship. Semi Ajayi struck the opener for the hosts at the MKM Stadium, registering Hull's first Premier League goal in nine years.
