India, May 11 -- After ending Mamata Banerjee's 15-year rule in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has positioned itself strongly for the Presidential Election next year.
The numbers had raised concerns for the BJP after the 2024 Lok Sabha results, when its seat count fell from 303 in 2019 to 240 in 2024. However, with significant gains in key states, the party has strengthened its presence in large states such as Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Bihar. These states carry substantial weight in the Presidential Electoral College, after India's most populous state, i.e., Uttar Pradesh.
