India, Sept. 1 -- US Army Secretary Daniel P. Driscoll has resigned after 18 months in the post, capping months of behind-the-scenes tension with the country's Secretary of War Pete Hegseth over the direction of the service, the White House confirmed on Monday in a statement.

Driscoll submitted his resignation directly to US President Donald Trump, according to the White House, with the Wall Street Journal first reporting his departure.
