India, Oct. 21 -- Water supply in parts of Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh may face disruption after the Upper Ganga Canal was closed for annual maintenance from midnight on October 20, 2026. The canal will remain closed until November 8 for desilting, repairs, and ghat redevelopment.

The shutdown is expected to affect irrigation across 15 Uttar Pradesh districts, parts of the National Capital Region (NCR), and water flow at Haridwar in Uttarakhand. Drinking water supplies in parts of NCR could also be affected because Ganga water is channelled to treatment facilities in Ghaziabad.
