India, July 23 -- Over 12,000 residents and tourists have been evacuated from southwestern France's Gironde department as aggressive wildfires ravage the heavily wooded region near Arcachon Bay. Driven by prolonged heatwaves and bone-dry forest conditions, the main blaze broke out on Wednesday near Le Porge and quickly consumed between 2,000 and 3,100 hectares of vegetation. Authorities expanded preventative safety measures as intense winds complicate containment efforts, putting the region under its highest red wildfire alert.
