FIFA World Cup 2026 Sets All-Time Attendance Record, Surpasses Historic 1994 Mark
India, June 26 -- The FIFA World Cup 2026 has officially become the highest-attended edition in the tournament's history, breaking the previous record of nearly 3.6 million spectators set during the 1994 World Cup. FIFA announced the milestone during Germany's Group E match against Ecuador in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where the updated attendance figure of 3,605,357 was displayed on the stadium's giant screens to loud cheers from fans.
With 48 matches still left to be played, overall attendance is expected to hit a new milestone in the coming weeks. Unlike the 1994 tournament, which featured only 52 matches, the expanded 2026 World Cup has seen stadiums operating at an average occupancy of more than 99%.
