India, April 5 -- The government was forced to drop the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill 2026, which was slated for discussion and debate on Wednesday, amid pushback from the opposition and concerns within the party regarding the electoral impact on Christian vote banks, especially in Kerala, which votes this month.
Christian organizations, among others, have expressed reservations against the bill over the scope and intent of state control on foreign-funded entities.
