India, April 5 --  It now appears that Congress members themselves are steering the potentially winnable state of Uttarakhand toward defeat. The situation here mirrors almost exactly the problems plaguing most other states: internal infighting and political maneuvering for the Chief Minister's chair. Uttarakhand, too, has fallen victim to this malaise.

Amidst these various issues, even those close to Rahul Gandhi have recently begun pursuing their own independent political agendas, thereby-in a sense-indirectly aiding the BJP. Significantly, the party high command is fully aware of this situation, yet despite a string of consecutive electoral defeats, no corrective measures have been implemented.
