India, April 23 -- In what can be labelled as a stunning discovery, scientists have uncovered a "vast and lush" prehistoric forest hidden at the bottom of the North Sea, between the UK and Scandinavia. The discovery, which is rare, is rewriting the timeline of how life returned to Europe after the last Ice Age.

The remarkably preserved prehistoric forest beneath the cold glaciers, known as Doggerland, dates back over 16,000 years.

Scientists used the cutting-edge ancient DNA analysis that revealed that the submerged landmass was once dismissed as a barren land bridge, but was, in fact, a thriving ecosystem of oak, elm, and hazel trees.
