India, June 27 -- The United Nations recently called for 'prompt investigation' into the immigration custody deaths in the US. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is already running a similar probe against the Trump administration.

Volker Turk, the High Commissioner of the United Nations spoke up this morning about the surge in immigration custody deaths in the US and demanded "prompt, independent, impartial and effective investigations".

He then stated that "Those responsible for violations of the law must be held to account, and the rights of the victims' families to truth, justice and reparation, and guarantees of non-recurrence must be upheld".
