India, Sept. 23 -- A new economic pressure tactic against Russia has been introduced by US President Donald Trump, who has warned that he may use his expanded tariff power to compel nations that are importing Russian energy to reconsider their decision. This threat is especially directed towards India and China, which import most of Russian oil.

Trump signed the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 on September 18. The bill provides the President of the United States with the right to impose 100% tariff duties on the top five buyers of Russian oil and natural gas.
