India, July 16 -- While officials say the coin honours America's history and patriotism, the decision has also sparked debate because living presidents have traditionally not appeared on US currency.

US Mint Begins Producing Trump $1 Coin

The US Mint has started manufacturing a commemorative $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump's portrait to mark America's 250th birthday (1776-2026).

The final design received approval from the US Commission of Fine Arts earlier this year. Although earlier proposals suggested the coin would be made of gold, the finished version features a gold-colored finish instead of solid gold. The commemorative coin is expected to be released during the fall of 2026.
