India, Aug. 30 -- Diane Parry has captured the first WTA singles title of her career, pulling off an upset against second seed Elise Mertens in the Monterrey Open final in Mexico on August 30, 2026. The 23-year-old Frenchwoman, ranked No. 50 in the world, defeated the experienced Belgian, ranked No. 24, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 in a hard-fought final.
Parry reached her first WTA final after overcoming fifth seed Ann Li in the semifinals and then held her composure against Mertens to complete the breakthrough. The final lasted 2 hours and 31 minutes, with Parry producing 21 forehand winners on her way to securing her maiden tour-level championship.
