India, May 24 -- New prison rules aim to ensure fairness, accountability and stricter parcel monitoring mechanisms.

In an effort to promote transparency and curb arbitrariness in the handling of parcels meant for inmates, the Delhi Prisons administration has introduced fresh guidelines establishing a "uniform, transparent and non-discriminatory" system for the receipt, inspection and delivery of parcels sent to prisoners lodged in Delhi jails.

As per an order issued with the approval of the Director General (Prisons), all prisoners, including undertrials as well as convicts, will have the right to receive authorised parcels from family members or legal counsel without any prejudice and regardless of caste, religion, race or socio-econom...
