Delhi Heatwave 2026: National Capital Records Warmest May Night in 14 Years as IMD Issues Orange Alert Till May 27
India, May 22 -- Delhi-NCR continued to struggle under extreme heat conditions as the national capital recorded its warmest May night in nearly 14 years. Even after sunset, residents found little relief as temperatures remained unusually high, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses across the region.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature at Safdarjung, Delhi's base weather station, settled at 31.9 degrees Celsius, which was 5.2 degrees above normal. The city last witnessed a hotter May night on May 26, 2012, when the minimum temperature touched 32.5 degrees Celsius.
