India, July 25 -- In a landmark moment for Indian para powerlifting, Jhandu Kumar made history by winning the bronze medal in the men's heavyweight final of the Commonwealth Games 2026. He clinched the medal on Friday, July 24th, 2026. At the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow, the 28-year-old lifter secured a total of 130.9 points from successful lifts of 181kg and 190kg to give India its first medal of the competition on Day 2. Nigeria's Idris Riluwan had a total of 132.8 points to win gold, whereas England's Matthew Harding secured silver with a total of 131 points.
