India, July 31 -- Asmita Dey opened a historic day for Indian judo by defeating Canada's Heidi Quach 2-1 by Yuko in the women's -48kg final after a gripping golden score battle, becoming the first Indian judoka, male or female, to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal. Just minutes later, Harsh Singh added another milestone by defeating reigning Commonwealth Games medallist Joshua Katz in the men's -60kg final, becoming the first Indian male judoka to claim a Commonwealth Games gold medal.
