India, July 22 -- The Commonwealth Games 2026 are set to get underway in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 23, bringing together athletes from across the Commonwealth for one of the biggest multi-sport events in the world. First held in 1930 as the British Empire Games, the competition has evolved significantly over the decades and enters its 23rd edition this year.

A total of 74 nations and territories will be participating at the Glasgow 2026 event, making it one of the largest editions in history. Unlike the Olympic Games, the four home nations of the United Kingdom-England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland-compete as separate teams, adding another layer of rivalry to the competition.
