India, Oct. 3 -- Christa Pike Execution Latest Update: A death-row execution in Tennessee has turned into an extraordinary legal and medical case after Christa Pike survived two doses of the lethal injection drug pentobarbital. Nearly two days after the September 30 execution attempt, Pike remained critically ill, unconscious and on a ventilator at a Nashville-area hospital, according to her lawyers.

Pike's attorneys have now asked courts to ensure that all evidence from the failed execution is preserved. Their filings describe difficulties establishing an intravenous line and allege that the execution team failed to recognize that the IV lines were not properly placed before another dose of pentobarbital was administered.
