India, April 12 -- In a major push to address housing irregularities in the national capital, the Centre has eased norms under the Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana to fast-track the regularisation of 1,511 unauthorised colonies in Delhi. The move is expected to benefit nearly 45 lakh residents by granting them legal ownership rights and improved access to civic infrastructure.
Officials said the revised guidelines simplify the process of granting property rights by removing several procedural hurdles. Colonies will now be regularised on an "as is, where is" basis, allowing existing structures to be accepted without requiring strict compliance with layout plans.
